Learning is a part of living and children are naturally curious learners. I hope to capitalize on the students’ eagerness and interests to help them develop strong academic skills for the basis of their school years. Fifth grade is a time to learn how to be more independent and self-directing of their own learning. Students do best in a stimulating environment in which they feel safe, accepted, and happy. I have high expectations for all students and will use a variety of teaching strategies to provide a balance of support and challenge that will continue the development of confident learners.

I believe strongly in learning for myself as well as others. I have two Master's degrees from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, one in Reading and one in Administration. I am constantly updating my learning through continued coursework.

I have a variety of teaching experiences here at Fort Leavenworth. I taught third, fourth, and fifth grade students in the regular classroom at MacArthur and Eisenhower Elementary Schools for 16 years. Ready for a change, I helped establish the 21st Century Science Lab here at Eisenhower where I loved working with students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Next I enjoyed the opportunity to teach kindergarteners full time for three years and it was a wonderful learning experience for all of us! I learned as much from my students and their parents as they learned from me. For five years I taught first grade and loved it! I really enjoyed returning to teaching fifth grade four years ago and know that this year will be wonderful as well!
