Preparing for 1st grade

It is exciting planning for the new school year! I am anxious to meet new students and parents. I am also looking forward to seeing returning students who will now be in a new grade. I have been updating files, reorganizing supplies in my classroom, purchasing supplies, and reworking some presentations.
Hopefully upcoming first graders are also getting excited about coming to school. Here are some things you can work on at home to prepare:
* Practice tying shoes and buttoning/zipping coats.
* Have your child memorize your current address and phone number. Can they spell your last name without looking at something?
* You may want to look for a pop-top or flip-top water bottle. Students are allowed to have water at their desks.  Students may also wish to bring a snack to eat at recess time.  Please keep these easy to eat on the go.  (No spoons, forks, etc. required.)
Enjoy your time together this summer!
These small disposable food containers work very well for crayon storage, as the original crayon boxes often fall apart.
